The Small Grants Program provides grants to community groups of up to $5,000 for projects, usually small ones, that bring people together and address the priorities set out in our neighbourhood renewal plan, such as housing, culture and recreation, wellness, and the promotion of community safety, capacity-building, empowerment and beautification. In 2010 we helped fund such activities as Flin Flon’s record-breaking participation in Canada’s National Culture Days celebrations, a Ted Longbottom performance at Flin Flon’s annual Trout Festival, the Flin Flon Anime Club, (an all-ages gaming group that features everything from big-screen video game tournaments to Carcassonne marathons), Flinty’s Birthday celebrations, a lunch program at the local Women’s Resource Centre, and the “Tools and Girls” and “Girls Gone Green” programs at a local elementary school. In 2011 we helped fund playground upgrades for the Kinsmen Park and the Trailer Court Park, a community choir production of “Fiddler on the Roof”, a new roof for the Lutheran Church, the launch of the Northern Visual Arts Centre, and the community celebration of “World Bubble Day”.
